Fascist Italy at the height of Mussolini’s dictatorship, an aggressive one-party regime pursuing empire in Africa and war alongside Nazi Germany.
By the late 1930s Mussolini’s Fascist regime had consolidated a one-party dictatorship built on a cult of the Duce, propaganda, corporatism and suppression of opposition, and pursued empire with the conquest of Ethiopia and intervention in Spain. Alliance with Nazi Germany and entry into the war in 1940 brought a series of military failures. The regime collapsed after the Allied invasion of 1943.
