Prussia from complacency to catastrophe at Jena and then reform, remaking its army, administration and society to help defeat Napoleon.
Prussia’s complacent neutrality ended in catastrophic defeat by Napoleon at Jena-Auerstedt in 1806 and French occupation. In response, reformers such as Stein, Hardenberg and Scharnhorst overhauled the administration, emancipated the serfs, reformed the army and expanded education.
