The Qing at its height under the Qianlong Emperor, a vast, prosperous and centralized empire doubling its territory in Inner Asia.
The Qianlong Emperor presided over the Qing at its territorial and demographic height, nearly doubling the empire through Inner Asian conquests and overseeing a period of prosperity, population growth and vast cultural projects. A centralized bureaucracy and Manchu banner elite governed a huge, diverse realm. Late in the reign corruption and fiscal strain began to erode the dynasty’s strength.
